Day 1 Lands End to Lamorna Cove 11

The day started off well with a trip to Landsend on the bus and then easy walking on the cliff tops to the Minack Theatre and Porthcurno beach.
Longships Lighthouse

We passed some beacons on the cliff top that helped sailors to know where they are, now superseded by GPS.

We also saw some Choughs that wouldn't sit still for a photograph but this is what they look like.

Some of the cliff paths were covered in beautiful wildflowers.
The cliffs around Porthgwarra are full of holes and arches and Margaret took the opportunity to explore one of them.

It was a bit cool and cloudy but very dry underfoot and by lunch time the sun had come out. We tried hard to see the Minack Theatre without paying but it is well hidden from view so here is an overhead view of what we missed!

There was a choice of walking down the road to the beach or descending some steep and tricky steps, so of course we descended the steps, Well it was the first day of our walk after all! Time for lunch and a paddle.

The plan was to visit the cafe but it was closed so we carried on to Penberth Cove, a pretty little place.
Between here and Lamorna Cove the path deteriorated and was hard to follow and then descended to the beach at St Loy's Cove strewn with boulders.
It didn't improve. from here to Lamorna Cove the path was difficult with lots of clambering over rocks which made us miss the bus. Fortunately it wasn't the last bus so we had time for a drink in the 'Lamorna Wink' before catching the last bus at 7.15 back to Penzance for a meal at Wetherspoons. Our first day over and quite a mixed one. Time for early bed zzzzz
